The Astrology of November 2022:
A new Self is emerging

November begins in the midst of serious astrological transits that are pushing us into profound alchemy of our minds, hearts, and relationships. We might be feeling tired, angry, frustrated, or overcome with sadness and confusion. In the thick of eclipse season life can seem surreal, exposing our deepest hidden feelings.

Meanwhile, Mars has just stationed retrograde, and he’s about to form his second square to Neptune, deflating our confidence and pausing our forward momentum. At the same time, Jupiter retrograde has just crossed the anoretic degree of Pisces, which can feel dissociative—like we’re underwater. Life is wonky and wobbly, and the veils are much thinner. However, we’re ready for major breakthrough. We can remember to rest, retreat, and steady ourselves, breathing deeply as we make best use of the planets’ ongoing intensity.

A Total Lunar Eclipse forms on November 8 in Taurus, falling exactly conjunct Uranus. We can prepare for significant surprises and shake-ups on a day that coincides with the Midterm Elections in the United States. On a personal level, we’re stepping into entirely new versions of ourselves. But first, we can face our obstacles head-on—examining any stuckness, triggers, and unhealthy patterns of attachment. We’re ready to finally shed old skin and experience radical release and liberation.

Surrounding the eclipse, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars enter significant dances with the outer planets. We can expect the unexpected all month. With Mars retrograding through Gemini, it’s important that we slow down, question our impulses, and go inward when we feel like lashing out. External and collective energies are pulling on us, and we may not know where we’re going or who we are. But this is a powerful opportunity to connect deeply with our spiritual inspiration and nature, especially as a mystical and optimistic stellium forms in Sagittarius by the end of the month. At this point, we can look toward the horizon and connect with greater meaning and joy.

What mental or spiritual frameworks inspire greater optimism? Unblock our hearts? Remind us of our shared humanity?

Individually and collectively, our work is far from done, and we’re learning just how much we’re capable of. Instant liberation and multidimensional shifts are possible if we’re willing to breathe into not knowing, trust our unfolding, and remember that we are love—interconnected with each other and the Earth. As the planets are reminding us, enlightened society begins inside our own hearts.

NOVEMBER 2022 TRANSITS

MARS RETROGRADE

Mars began his retrograde on October 30, 2022, dipping us into exhaustion and mental triggering. Gemini rules the lungs, and we have to remember to practice great self-care, allowing time for adaptation and course correction. We don’t know what we’re doing or why, but we don’t have to. We can relax, rest, and go inward. There’s no need to rush anything or make any grand decisions until Mars stations direct on January 12, 2023.

VENUS, SUN, MERCURY CONJOIN SOUTH NODE

Venus, planet of love, crosses the South Node on November 3, followed by the Sun (our ego) on November 5, and Mercury (our mind) on November 6. The South Node represents unhealthy patterns and wounding from early and past lives. It’s what we’re here to purify so we can evolve into our highest potentials. During these few days, we can expect old habits and stories to rear their heads for the purpose of healing and release. Any themes that arise are preparing us for a breakthrough on the Lunar Eclipse, which arrives in a couple days.

TAURUS LUNAR ECLIPSE

A Taurus Lunar Eclipse forms on November 8, closing the eclipse vortex—though eclipse season continues until the Sagittarius New Moon in two weeks. This eclipse is not for the faint of heart, falling exactly conjunct shocking Uranus in Taurus. While Taurus represents where we’re the most stubborn and stuck, Uranus gives us the chance for rapid change. After all, he operates beyond the constraints of space and time—he’s the first planet in the Sun’s orbit invisible to the human eye. While calamity, revelations of truth, and turns of events might rock us, we can trust that they are ultimately catapulting us toward evolution. With Mercury opposing the eclipse, we could notice an increase of verbal and political activity, especially since it coincides with the Midterm Elections in the United States. But if we slow down and work with these planetary energies intentionally, we have the chance to free ourselves from mental blockages and unhealthy patterns of anxiety and thinking. We might consider writing down what we want to release and manifest, adjusting our thoughts and communication so that we don’t cause ourselves needless suffering.

MARS SQUARE NEPTUNE

Mars, now retrograding, squares Neptune on November 19, submerging us into deeper confusion and possibly fatigue. The first square was on October 12, 2022, and the last will be in March of 2023. The theme of this ongoing square is becoming more apparent, and we can think back to October 12 to see what dilemma has returned to purview. It’s important to relax and surrender, reminding ourselves that it’s okay to do nothing. We don’t even need to know what to do. We can meditate, retreat, breathe, and default to reflection rather than action. The beauty of this square is that any unhealthy impulses that ruled our lives previously are now dissolving, cleaning our slates for new desires. We are resetting our nervous systems and our quickness to react, finding more effective ways to self-soothe and heal.

SUN MOVES INTO SAGITTARIUS

The Sun moves into Sagittarius on November 22, which could help us find levity, joy, and adventure in an otherwise rocky month. Sagittarius reminds us to look up, adventure, laugh, enjoy our lives, and learn something new. If we’ve been doing too much navel-gazing, we can now look up to the sky. This is a beautiful time to go on a trip, start a class, listen to spiritual podcasts, and read inspiring literature. We’re expanding our minds and perspectives, moving into fresh terrain with enthusiasm and zeal.

SAGITTARIUS NEW MOON

The Sagittarius New Moon arrives on November 23, officially closing the eclipse portal. This inspires lightness and relief at the end of eclipse season. We can set intentions to shift our minds and find greater meaning and joy. While Mars is still retrograding—and we remain in a process of deep recalibration—we might be more apt to find the humor and silver lining in our personal processes of deep change and alchemy.

MARS RETROGRADE TRINES SATURN

On November 28, Mars trines Saturn in Aquarius, helping us establish anchors in the wobbliness of Mars’s retrograde. We are beginning to find clarity around what we truly want. Slow and steady, we are progressing toward our goals, shedding old skin, and enacting new thought patterns. We’re learning how to communicate with one another with less triggering and anxiety, healing our divides as we recalibrate our minds and relationships to anger and each other. As the month ends, hope, containment, and new shared morals are in sight. We’re finding stability in the midst of chaos and change, while learning productive ways to continue our journey of embodying new selves, lives, and ways of relating.

NOVEMBER 2022 SUMMARY

November is a potent month beckoning us into deep transformation. The planets are stripping us of old versions of ourselves, making room for new patterns, relationships, and internal dialogues. Eclipse season is still underway, and Mars has just stationed retrograde. Our relationships and lives are now intensified, and we may be feeling emotionally saturated, triggered, confused, or a little lost. We can remember to breathe and retreat, defaulting to alone time and introspection, versus taking big risks or having difficult confrontations. The Total Lunar Eclipse on November 8 will bring shock and significant shifts, and we’re ready to leap onto new trajectories. Whatever pain we’re feeling now, multiple planets in Sagittarius will lift our spirits by the end of the month, helping us find anchors in optimism and meaning. Mars will remain in retrograde until January 12, but we’re beginning to turn a corner by late November, grounding into philosophical frameworks that will help us along our continued journeys of deep inner work. The Aquarius Age has begun, and significant work is underway in healing our hearts. From here, we can co-create a more enlightened society that begins with us and how we love ourselves and each other.

November 2022 Aspiration

As the weather cools and we lose ourselves in the tides of confusion, may our hearts stay warm and open, our seats rooted to the center of the Earth. May we remember to breath, retreat, and steady our minds as we embrace this opportunity for potent change and become new versions of ourselves—lighter, freer, and more authentic.
