We begin March with all planets now moving direct, a rare occurrence that allows for clarity and forward momentum. This comes as a welcome relief in the wake of challenging outer-planetary squares, retrogrades, and eclipses. Pisces is now in command, sign of spirituality, gentleness, forgiveness, and compassion. She’s ready to help us mend our hearts and smooth our jagged edges before we bound ahead. 

A couple of fiery influences arrive later in March as the Sun moves into Aries, heralding Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and Mars squares Mercury, activating our minds and sparking disagreements. However, we are supported in working through contention and finding peace.

All in all, this month is a much-needed respite from this era of powerful change and revolution. We can open our arms to healing our bodies, hearts, minds, and relationships, especially as the New and Full Moons activate loving Venus, dreamy Neptune, and healing Chiron. Saturn will also supports Mars, allowing us the chance to work through old issues. We can establish resolution and harmony as we formulate practical plans that support us in our continued growth and reinvention.

MARS ENTERS GEMINI / MERCURY CONJUNCT JUPITER

Mars enters Gemini on March 3, energizing our minds and communication. As Mars leaves Taurus, we will feel less tired, and more motivated and inspired. The planet of physical vitality is leaving the sign of the beautifully lazy, pleasure-oriented Bull. It’s important to slow down and clarify our intentions as we become busier and engage in more social exchanges. This is a beautiful time to begin writing projects, dream up new ideas, and sharpen our intellect. Mercury, ruler of Gemini, joins with Jupiter on March 4, further expanding our intelligence, innovation, wit, and desire for more meaningful conversation.

PISCES NEW MOON / MERCURY ENTERS PISCES

A Pisces New Moon arrives on March 13, joined with transcendent, ethereal Neptune, co-ruler of Pisces. We are now basking in extra dreamy light. The planets are blessing us with fresh starts, healing our hearts after a difficult year of grief, change, loss, and growth. Venus, goddess of love and beauty, is nearby as well. We have the opportunity to feel closer to loved ones while the potential for unity and unconditional love permeate the Earth. Channeled art and music could flow through us, as we set aside time to meditate, feel our hearts, connect with friends, and create. Mercury enters Pisces on March 15, further blurring our boundaries and submerging us into non-conceptual waters. We are supported in speaking from our hearts rather than our intellectual minds, which could make us feel a bit muddled. Exchanges could be foggier than usual, and we could feel extra sensitive and psychic now. We might take extra time to ourselves to process, retreat, and recharge.

SPRING EQUINOX / SUN + VENUS ENTER ARIES

We step out of Pisces’ clouds and into Aries’ fiery action on March 20, as the Sun enters the sign of the Ram, and the Spring Equinox occurs in the Northern Hemisphere, the Fall in the Southern. This is the beginning of the Astrological New Year. It’s a time to set intentions with excitement, planting seeds for future growth that we would like to generate. Venus enters Aries the next day, on March 21. After a period of softening our hearts, now is the time to become more direct and external as we decide which direction we would like to take. What do our hearts desire? We can courageously take action and leap forward!

MERCURY SQUARE MARS + THE LUNAR NODES

On March 23, Mercury in Pisces squares Mars, eliciting struggle between our heads and hearts, fact and fiction. An ongoing question is ready to be resolved as these planets square off for the third time since January because of Mercury Retrograde. The next day, on March 24, Mercury is forming square angles with the karmic Lunar Nodes. We have the potential to resolve past wounds and catapult toward our highest evolutionary growth. This requires heartfelt intelligence and dialogue as we work through the issues at hand.

LIBRA FULL MOON

A Libra Full Moon forms on March 28, falling opposite a stellium in Aries, which includes the Sun, Venus, Chiron, and Ceres. Passion and tensions are high, but we have the chance to heal and return to nurturing care. Luckily a Grand Air Trine is forming with the Moon, Mars, and Saturn, helping to create stability and flow. Carefully, we can find a practical plan for moving forward. We can negotiate with others and find middle ground, as we continue forward in healing our selves, relationships, society, and Earth.

MARCH 2021 SUMMARY

We’re in the midst of revolution, transitioning from one age in humanity to the next. The planets have been rocking us with anxious energies and rapid-fire change that have upended our lives and previous notions of reality. The month of March offers a gentle reprieve—softer healing influences that provide the opportunity to forgive ourselves and each other, establish harmony, and relax our hearts and nervous systems. March also presents a couple of hiccups toward the end of the month, as volatile Mars squares communication-oriented Mercury, and a stellium forms in fiery Aries. Long-standing arguments could erupt—but with the chance of mending our divides. This month, the New and Full Moons are particularly dreamy, spiritual, and creative, and we can take advantage, stepping into romance, deeper friendships, and artistic pursuits. On March 20, the Spring Equinox occurs, Fall in the Southern Hemisphere. We are beginning a new season and Astrological New Year, as the clouds part and our forward momentum ignites. After weeks of dreaming, we're ready to determine a practical plan and which steps we want to take toward building our visions into reality.

In the midst of thawing ice and tulips rising from the snow, may we feel the warmth in our hearts softening the shock of change. May we tune into divine inspiration as we begin working toward new dreams and goals, blending love and creative vision with keen insight, intelligence, and care.
