The Astrology of November 2024:
Laying Ourselves Bare

by Juliana McCarthy

November 1, 2024 — November begins inside the cauldron of an extra potent Scorpio season. A Scorpio New Moon starts off the month as Scorpio’s two rulers, Mars and Pluto, oppose each other. Passions, aggressions, and desires are bubbling over, and we may feel deep yearnings for truth, connection, and intimacy.

Pluto enters Aquarius this month for the final time after retrograding in and out since March 2023. We are ready to fully embrace a new era of humanitarianism, freshness, and invention. At the same time, we’re leaving behind an old era—old structures, systems, patterns, and traditions that no longer serve us. A Taurus Full Moon, conjoined with Uranus, arrives November 15, furthering themes of electric change.

Until his ingress, Pluto at 29º Capricorn opposes Mars in Cancer, exact on November 3—just two days before Election Day in the U.S. We may feel quick to fight and defend ourselves, and violence in the world is likely. We would be wise to meditate and exercise more than usual, allowing our shadows and pain to rise and release. Old tensions are coming to a head. Over the next few weeks and beyond—until spring of 2025—we have the chance to better understand our deepest longings, triggers, and the source of our conflicts.

Mars begins his retrograde in early December, and we’ll return to any themes that are arising now again and again until early May. The more we can be honest with ourselves and each other, even if it’s painful, and the more we embrace our growth and evolution, the easier this period will be. In this time of Scorpio, we can shed our leaves and allow ourselves to feel naked and seen, without flinching or running away.

What are we afraid of confronting? Where do we need to surrender and lay down our arms?

November 2024 TRANSITS

SCORPIO NEW MOON

A Scorpio New Moon forms on November 1, trining Saturn in Pisces. We are acknowledging difficult truths and finding our anchors at the same time. Meanwhile, Mars and Pluto, Scorpio’s two co-rulers, are opposing each other. Mars is the planet of anger, aggression, lust, and fighting, while Pluto represents crisis, transformation, and rebirth. We may feel extra impassioned and more susceptible to confrontation. If we’ve been sweeping issues under the rug, this could be the time to face our fears and speak our truth. How can we find balance—honoring our full spectrum of emotion while staying rooted in our bodies and the discipline of containment? How can we be fully loving and honest at the same time? We can approach this day with intentionality, knowing that whatever seeds we plant have epic potential to bloom.

MARS OPPOSITE PLUTO

On November 3, Mars (29º Cancer) exactly opposes Pluto (29º Capricorn). The intensity of this transit has been building for weeks, and today it reaches a crescendo. Because of Mars’ upcoming retrograde, he will oppose Pluto two more times until the end of April 2025. The planets of aggression and transmutation are in a tense dance for six months. Powerful changes are in effect throughout this period. This first ingress focuses on releasing the past, while the next ingresses are more about establishing the future. We’re diving into the roots of our anger, sexuality, and impulses and transforming ourselves from the inside out so that we can become more conscious, whole, and healed. While discomfort, fighting, and even violence may occur, the planets are helping to release the pressure valve so we can ultimately generate more creativity, playfulness, love, and higher potentials for enlightened society.

MARS IN LEO

Mars enters Leo on November 3, which usually only lasts a couple months. Because of Mars’ upcoming retrograde on December 6, he will move in and out of Leo until June 17, 2025. Mars in Leo is about drama, pleasure, sexuality, and self-expression. As Mars in Leo opposes Pluto and moves into retrograde, we’re going inward to reflect on our inner children and our childish impulses. We are working to get a handle on them through self-reflection. We can pay attention to themes that emerge, noticing our desires and the ways in which we’re acting out. Where do we feel unseen? Inauthentic? Insecure? Unaligned with our hearts? Where have we been self-sabotaging out of pride or fear? If we haven’t been having enough fun, we can find ways to better prioritize the joys of life.

VENUS IN CAPRICORN

Venus enters Capricorn on November 11, and we’re ready to clarify our values and commitments. We’re reigning in our wildness and deciding what and who are truly important to us. Where do we want to focus our love and attention?

TAURUS FULL MOON

A Taurus Full Moon forms on November 15, conjunct Uranus. This lunation is wild, electric, and unpredictable as Uranus hurls his lightning bolts at us. The theme of the month remains—We are liberating from old stuckness and stagnation and becoming more genuine. Abrupt realizations or catalyzing events could arise, which feel long overdue. Big shifts are inevitable, and we can trust that any unexpected hairpin turns will help us find our true paths. Miraculous breakthroughs, opportunities, and manifestations are possible now—but so is the chaos of abrupt change. Taurus reminds us to stay centered in our bodies and rooted to the Earth no matter what surprises we encounter.

PLUTO IN AQUARIUS

On November 19, Pluto enters Aquarius for the third and final time, where it remains for twenty years. Pluto has been dipping in and out of Aquarius since March 2023, but now he remains in Aquarius for the rest of his transit. We are done with revisiting our old ruts and frustrations and ready to dive headlong into a new era.

Pluto’s ingresses always signify big changes in society. In Aquarius, sign of the future, Pluto has historically brought revolution, the spark of liberal democracy, and major technological advancement. This new paradigm holds the potential for the implementation of more progressive values, cooperation, technological breakthrough, and freedom from oppression. We are stepping into a more humanitarian age, in which our visions of the future can finally become real.

SUN IN SAGITTARIUS

On November 21, the Sun enters Sagittarius, and we adjust our gazes from looking internally to looking toward the horizon. Sagittarius loves adventure, travel, and expanding his perspective. It’s time to take risks, have more fun, and find deeper meaning in all that we do.

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN SAGITTARIUS

Mercury retrograde begins on November 25 at 22º Sagittarius and ends on December 15 at 6º Sagittarius. Mercury retrogrades are about reflection, recalibration, and review. We can drop into our hearts and turn off the chattiness of our intellectual minds. Magic and psychic abilities are pronounced, while travel, technology, and regular communication may go a bit haywire. Falling in Sagittarius, we are examining our beliefs and mental frameworks. Where have we become overzealous or propagandized? Where have we become too sure of ourselves or closed-minded? Belief in anything creates patterns of tension in our body. It’s time to relax that tension and drop into the wisdom of not knowing.

NOVEMBER 2024 ASPIRATION

Surrounded by skeletons of trees, may we celebrate darkness, inviting it to our table with love and acceptance. May we remember that monsters are just angels with closed hearts, and the only thing to fear is fear itself. If we relax the constriction around our hearts, the waves of intense feelings will lead us home.
