September 1, 2023 — We begin September on the heels of an intense summer full of karmic lessons, relational recalibration, and internal challenges. Luckily, this month offers gentle reprieve. Saturn and Pluto have been causing enormous strain, dipping us into shadowy underworlds, while Venus and Mercury have been in retrograde. Pluto is now pulling away from multiple oppositions and an ongoing square to the lunar nodes. At the same time, Venus and Mercury both station direct this month, and a Virgo New Moon forms a beautiful, harmonious Grand Earth Trine. We are ready to find new clarity and security as the planets cradle us in a loving, strong embrace.

Also this month, Venus squares Jupiter and sextiles Mars. These transits will last longer than usual since Venus and Jupiter both station, standing still. The planet of love, beauty, and finances is emerging from her retrograde in an indulgent mood. We’re leaving our caves of retreat and returning to connection and creation—hopefully from a place of increased self-awareness and hard-won healing. We’re putting our Venus retrograde lessons to the test. We only have to be careful not to overindulge, balancing pleasure with Virgo’s sensibility and pragmatism.

The Grand Earth Trine mid-September ensures that staying grounded is possible. Our diligence and hard work are paying off, and the more we practice self-care and discernment, the more we’ll experience breakthrough.

September ends with the Aries Full Moon, offering a chance to release pent up anger, frustration, friction, and self-aggression. If we can stay centered, we have a potent opportunity to heal deep and ancient wounds. By early October, Venus and Mercury are out of their shadows and gaining momentum. We’ll have learned and integrated our lessons while forging easier paths that feel fresh and untrodden. As we move ahead, our hearts can beam with renewal, strength, and a greater capacity for light after a summer of meeting our fears and depths.

September 2023 TRANSITS

VENUS STATIONS DIRECT

Venus stations direct on September 3 at 12º Leo. It’s been a long and arduous journey of recalibrating our hearts, priorities, and relational patterns. Venus will stand still for a bit while Mercury remains in retrograde, so we don’t need to rush ahead. We can rub our eyes and find light through the haze as we begin to see the world through new lenses. 

VIRGO NEW MOON

One of the most auspicious and significant New Moons of the year forms on September 14 at 21° Virgo. This lunation will create a harmonious Grand Earth Trine and Kite aspect pattern, with the New Moon as the propeller of the Kite and Neptune as the apex. This is a dreamy, spiritual lunation that involves a fresh start infused with healing, spirituality, and gentleness. We are ready to begin anew with greater compassion and love while cradled in earthy support. It’s important to get clear on what we’re calling in.

MERCURY STATIONS DIRECT

Mercury stations direct on September 15 at 8° Virgo. Clarity is ready to pour in as we begin to see progress with whatever we’ve been working on, internally or externally. We may notice a somewhat magical unfurling of situations that previously felt stuck, painful, or irreversibly damaged.

VENUS SQUARE JUPITER

On September 17 Venus at 15° Leo squares Jupiter at 15° Taurus. Normally this is a two-day transit, but since Venus and Jupiter station at the same time, this square lasts much longer, affecting us until the end of September. While the transit lasts all month, this date marks the peak. We are ready to feel an abundance of love, exuberance, and creative energy. However, it would be wise to apply care and moderation.

SUN IN LIBRA / EQUINOX

The Sun enters Libra on September 22, marking the fall equinox in the northern hemisphere, spring in the southern. Day and night are of equal length, like the Libran scales. This is a time to feel balance, harmony, and relational smoothness, and to work out any discordance within ourselves or with others. In either hemisphere, we are engulfed in Libra’s beauty—autumn leaves or spring flowers.

ARIES FULL MOON

An Aries Full Moon forms on September 29 at 6° Aries. We may notice an increase in anger and disagreements, so we would be wise to keep it simple and retreat, breathing through any charged or triggered emotions that arise. We now have the chance for deep healing if we can balance our personal desires with our longing for harmony with others. We’re ready to experience resolutions and release as we untangle from longstanding karma and painful patterns.

September 2023 Aspiration

As the heat of summer begins to dissipate, may we experience cool clarity and internal balance. May we step into our lives renewed and regenerated, understanding our strength and the power of our hearts more deeply than ever before.
